Tutorial on electron-phonon calculations using EPWpy

Post by stiwari »

The EPW Collaboration is pleased to announce a tutorial on "Introduction to EPWpy and MATCSSI," which will be held on November 19, 2025, as part of the MATCSSI Training Series hosted in collaboration with the Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC).

This tutorial will introduce participants to the theory and practice of electron–phonon coupling calculations using EPW, and demonstrate how to compute key physical properties such as optical absorption and polaronic effects from first principles.

A major focus of this tutorial will be on EPWpy, an open-source Python interface developed to automate and abstract EPW-related workflows. EPWpy provides a user-friendly and efficient framework for performing complex ab initio simulations of electron–phonon interactions, with an emphasis on reproducibility, scalability, and integration with the MATCSSI cloud platform.

Instructors:
- Dr. Sabyasachi Tiwari (Oden Institute for Computational Engineering and Sciences, The University of Texas at Austin)
- Prof. Jon Lafuente-Bartolomé (University of the Basque Country / EPW Collaboration)

Topics
- Ab initio electron–phonon coupling calculations using EPW
- Automating EPW workflows with EPWpy
- Integration with the MATCSSI materials simulation platform
- Hands-on session on EPWpy and MATCSSI

Logistics
- The tutorial will consist of two theory lectures (1.5h), followed by 2.5h of hands-on tutorials using MATCSSI and the Frontera supercomputer at TACC.
- Lectures are open to all registered participants. Hands-On tutorials are limited to 40 participants, which will be accepted on a FCFS basis.
- Date: November 19, 2025
- Time: 9AM-1PM Central Standard Time
- Event type: Zoom
